I played football, played that position, and was taught the exact opposite. He lead with his head down, spearing, which every level of football teaches as wrong. That's why they made a rule against it. It's bad for the player making the hit, and the player receiving it.

Yeah, I know you are taught to keep your head up when you make contact to protect your neck. Thing is he made contact first with his shoulder. There was nothing wrong with it. It was an effort play.
And I played safety also. Point is, when someone catches the ball, you try to knock the hell out of them. Separate them from the ball. Hurt them. Make them pay. They are the enemy when they catch the ball in your defensive backfield. I do not see how anyone can critisize him.
