If you were an up and coming coach would you stay at MSU for long?

I'm not bashing MSU at all. I just think it's the awkward position you guys seem to be stuck in.

I would actually like Mullen to bring you guys up some more but don't really think he'll stay long enough to build the traction you need.

It would depend on a few factors.

1. Money
2. My wife and family
3. The situation at the school wanting me

From what Im hearing, State is looking to match any offer Miami throws Mullen's way, His wife Megan really likes Starkville and its small town feel, and the situation at Miami is a hard sell to get fans, improve facilities, etc...

I think you missed some factors.

Ability to recruit top players. Facilities. Ability to compete for/win conference championships.

I am glad Megan likes Starkville. I would have pegged her for a big town girl.

What is she doing these days? She used to be on the Golf Channel IIRC.

I actually think State can do that. Miami doesn't have a ton of money to pay coaches and they are not going to break the bank for Mullen IMO. The only reason he goes, if he does, is because Miami is perceived as higher profile, he can win by just recruiting his own backyard, and he has an easier path to conference championships and BCS bowls.

She is raising her and Dan's two year old son Cannon. She also has made some rounds across Mississippi speaking at Alumni functions. Great lady.

Miami and money. I read yesterday that Donald frickin' Trump is lobbying for Mike Leach and put an open letter in the paper down there to Donna Shalayla that he would help with the money.

I didn't know he was a Miami fan.

If he's backing then they gots plenty of jack. The athletic department is pretty poor from what I've read/heard.

How has Miami been doing recruiting since South Florida and UCF went D1? Also how have they been doing in head to head recruiting against FSU and UF?

And Finally when was the last time Miami even made the ACC championship game since they joined that conference?????? HMMMM NEVER They are a lot further away from the "EASY PATH" to the BCS games you think.

Not to mention their facilities suck, and they only drew about 45k fans this season on average to their home games.

Dan Mullen has YET to lose a game he was not supposed to lose, and this year beat Florida in the Swamp, Ole Miss at Home, and Georgia for the first time since the 70's.

Its amazing how much Hate Mullen is getting from some of you guys.

The point is there is more talent with 50 miles of Miami than in Mississipi, Arkansas and probably Alabama combined. They haven't done great at keeping the talent home recently, but there will be a coach that comes in there and does it. How long has it been since MSU won an SEC championship and made it to a BCS bowl? Whether you like it or not, the path is easier in the ACC. Don't get so defensive, I wasn't predicting he goes to Miami, just pointing out reasons why he might.

the key to being a great coach is WINNING the games you're NOT supposed to, not the other way around.

About as amazing as how much undeserving praise he gets from MSU fans. They're ready to elect him mayor.
