Thanks for the tips everyone. I'll probably just go to the safe bet in Rendezvous and not look any strangers in the eye. Is Beale street just like a miniature bourbon street? From the handful of photos I've seen that's the impression I get. Is it cool to walk down the street with an open container?

Go to Rendezvous, DON'T wear team colors. dress normal and ask for the local cut. They smoke the ribs for the locals 6 hours, for the tourists 2 hours. Also get the Lamb ribs. They are amazing.

It's pretty much exactly a miniature Bourbon St. Open containers are fine (and encouraged).

Yes, it's ok to have an open container on Beale and at the Liberty Bowl.
I'm telling you, go to Rendevous it's fun if you're from out of town. But BBQ shop is in Midtown, not far from the stadium or downtown.
It's my favorite in the city.
