There is actually a question about this now. The police report was posted online recently, and it sounded a lot more likely that he KNEW it was stolen, and there seems to be some suspicion that he actually stole it. The police dropped a felony burglary charge on him, but apparently never pressed the issue of where he "bought" the laptop. Might have been the Florida influence on the proceedings?
If you read the police report, there is absolutely no doubt he knew it was stolen, and his actions when the police showed up make him look like a complete idiot.

EDIT: Nevermind, just saw that someone posted the report again...and I answered my own question...they did not live in the same building.

Just to play a little Devil's Advocate myself, I have seen enough innacurate police reports in my time not to 100% trust everything contained in one FWIW. Either way, he either stole it or knew it was stolen. In my mind this is old news and only tangentially relevant, if at all, to the current issues (i.e. he wasn't a saint in the past, so it is not beyond comprehension that he might have done something that was not above board during his recruitment).
