Could the FBI's involvement in the Newton case be incidental to another investigation. IMHO, I think the FBI got wind of the football improprieties through wiretaps of Auburn boosters involved in the bank fraud and casino cases.

This story does have some major stink to it and fills a few pieces in the puzzle.

They overheard the Auburn grad talking about getting the money together for Cam on their wiretap. Thats why they showed up without being invited by Slive or Emmert.

my dad said the same thing. said mcgregor was an AU alum and good friend with Lowder. FBI is there because of the victoryland stuff, but while they were tapping phone lines, they came across this stuff too.

If that's the case, this could get almost breathtakingly ugly.

I really hope they're able to bust them for paying-off refs while they're at it.

If they sit Cam, no one cares, instead they slapped the face of NCAA and every other SEC school. Hope they go down hard.

If this is true, this could be where all the rumors of other players besides Cam Newton are coming from. And trust me, a lot of people I trust are saying that there are other players involved. Whether they are right or not remains to be seen, but they have nailed everything so far. It's going to be an interesting week to say the least.

Nothing surrounding this will take place in a week unless some people would like to go ahead and plead guilty.

I would almost guarantee that the FBI would not be involved if all that was involved was the attempt to obtain money from MSU in return for Cam's signing with MSU. TMZ's report seems to imply that the FBI is more interested in efforts to shop players around, not just a single player. Whether this is directed at Auburn is pretty speculative. But that there is more to the FBI investigation than the Newton saga is a reasonable surmise.

All it takes is one weak link in the chain for everything to change...

I think the chain is already broken and they are just allowing everyone to pick a side at this point. Auburn picked theirs yesterday.

At this point, I don't think anything could happen in this story which would surprise me.
