Yeah, but this church was about to be condemned by the City of Newnan. The city had been fighting with the church for a long period of time because the building was not up to code. Now, all of a sudden they have the money to renovate. The offerings spread out over time explanation really doesn't wash IMHO.

You are assuming that there was money involved in the renovation of the church.
It might have been that he got free labor and materials instead. That way, there is no money trail involved.
