I saw. It was also said like this, if I were to say about your 83... yeah.. yall were awarded by some small little poll somewhere, even thought most of the country believed someone else was better, yeah, yall should be able to claim it.

1941 is such a joke, but the sad fact that Bama claims this makes you wonder about most of the other 11.

IMO, any #1 ranking awarded retroactively should not count.

See, if I was an Auburn fan, I wouldn't claim 1983. Because the wire service standard had been established at that point. A single publication or group wouldn't bear the same weight as the AP or UPI.

But I'm also not going to go back now, in the BCS era, and mock championships awarded by the AP or UPI, because those WERE the standards used at the time. In fifteen years, we will have another standard to award the NC. Will LSU or Florida's BCS titles then be dismissed as being "irrelevant BCS garbage that nobody should claim"....?

The cool part about this is that outside of all our bitching, Auburn doesn't claim 1983 in any way, so you can belittle our non-national championship all you want. We just bitch about it because we had a tie for best record and had by far the toughest schedule. And we dominated the common opponents category with Miami.

At any rate, I gave Alabama due credit for 1973 while saying that the system was inherently flawed because Notre Dame didn't get the UPI poll. That's the truth.
