quote:

For the act, Meyer will bench his star linebacker for the first half of the Gators’ game against Vanderbilt.

Repeat: one half. That penalty isn’t a joke, although the man dishing it out is acting like one.

quote:

Meyer ought to be man enough to know this, which is why his decision to dole out such a light punishment is more pathetic than Spikes’ original sin.

UF athletic director Jeremy Foley or SEC commissioner Mike Slive should’ve stepped in and issued a real suspension.

“I don’t condone that,” Meyer told reporters Monday of Spikes’ play.

Gee, really, you don’t condone it?

quote:

This is a sport, unfortunately, where you don’t need to run a program the right way to earn massive fame, fortune and support though. A large proportion of Gator fans wouldn’t care if Ealey’s eye had been damaged. It’s like that with every college team

I agree that Myer missed an opportunity to send a message. However, what we don't see is often much worse than what we do.

“I don’t think that we did anything in that game that they didn’t do,” quarterback Tim Tebow told reporters.

That’s the excuse of a child though. The other-guy-does-it-too is never a justifiable defense. It wouldn’t even matter if Ealey had provoked him (the two had been jawing prior to the incident).

If TT saw the incident and said this, he just went down in my book (for what that's worth!)

Good find. It's kinda hard to argue with what the guys says in the article.

I am confident that they don't care what I think.

I respect Tebow. He plays the game the way it should be played and is a tremendous competitor. In my opinion, he is the best player to play college football, at least that I have seen.

Anyway, I hope that he can see that Spikes' play has no place in CFB. If he is willing to look the other way in order to protect Spikes, then he has gone down in my book.

Maybe, like I said before, there is a LOT more to the story than what was caught on tape.

Not condoning what Spikes did but there were MANY fights on the field that day.

There is zero respect between the two teams right now and that was evident on the field. Partly because UGA is sick of losing to UF every year.

No doubt that UGA has a serious pain in the arse from Florida.

It has become a "chippy" series in recent years, with both sides to blame for some of the tit for tat.

Do you think the chippiness has to do with the neutral field? If it is home and home, 80 to 90 percent of the fans will be for the home team. Does the 50-50 contribute to the testiness, or is it as you say just because it has been so one sided?

Chippy because it's been one sided and both coaches have been poking at one another (2007 UGA dance, 2008 timeouts).

There is a split of fans 50/50 (for the most part) at the game so it's a unique environment for both teams. For the previous 20 years prior to UF's current run UGA had the upper hand. I don't remember it ever being as bad on the field as it was this weekend. I've never seen the ref during the UF / UGA game have to talk to the captains to tell them to calm down their players.

I'm sure this will spill over into next year as well...

Florida is begging for an adult to lead them. Meyer isn’t it when it comes to player conduct.
