They haven't been "legal" since the 1970s.

Yet they are still allowed to use them?

They aren't. They just make no attempt at all to take them up at the gates.

They are "illegal" in SEC games. The noise maker policy is a SEC rule, not a NCAA one. MSU can not be penalized for them in a non-conference game. However, they don't search for them very hard in ANY game, but State doesn't "ask" for cowbells in SEC games like they do in non-SEC games (see Jackson State game versus LSU game).

At MSU the cowbell is not classified as an artificial noise maker, it is an aphrodisiac. That clanging sounds just gets them all hot and bothered.

That's how they get their dates to the stadium. The girls hear the clanging and automatically follow...

They have the smallest (or second smallest) stadium in the SEC. Let them have their cowbells. It's a tradition for them. It just adds more color and character to the SEC, in my humble opinion.

Disagree. It's annoying as shite, even on television. I can't believe the news the piece of tape that Alabama used is generating, while State fans have been allowed to openly break this rule for decades. They should just get rid of the rule if they are not going to enforce it.

Bull shite. Why have rules if you aren't going to enforce them? The home team should be warned once to get them out of the fans' hands. After that, it's 15 yards for each offense. Who the hell do thy think they are anyway, Florida?

The cowbells need to go as much as the Confederate Flags needed to go from Ole Miss. If you are from the North and your first trip to Mississippi is Starkville during gameday, you are likely to think everyone in Mississippi is like that. It takes down the whole state.

Good point, not everyone in the state is like that, just those born in the state.

If we are good again, they will start enforcing it again. Basically any coach can complain and get a warning and after that they can start giving us penalties. Like it or hate it, it makes it loud as shite. Plus if they don't search hard for the bells, they aren't searching hard for anything else.

I think cowbells are a little different than the confederate flag. I guess they should take the trailors away from Dudy Noble too while we're at it huh?
