Probably because Jefferson is a better all-around QB than McElroy, has more potential than McElroy, is younger than McElroy, is more talented than McElroy, and has more NFL potential than McElroy.
Other than that stuff, yeah it's pretty close.
All that said, I don't mean to bash McElroy, because he will be a good QB for you guys, I'm sure of it. But there's really no question if you're just asking someone to pick between the two. The only people in the country that might pick McElroy over JJ would be Bama fans. The same cannot be said for LSU fans and JJ.

Jefferson is a tall pocket passer who can really pull it down and run. I don't view McElroy as a better passer.
