LINK This link here that I'm posting is from Rivals, it's the "Pro Style QB" National Position Rankings for 2008 in case the link above does not work. JJ was ranked 8th at his position and over 200 nationally with a 4 star ranking in 2008.. In looking over the list I don't know any of the other QB's except for Bama's Star Jackson who is ranked ahead of JJ at #5. This just goes to show these star rankings are worthless most of the time. It really comes down to coaches knowing how to recruit the best players who will grow into their system.

Anybody know how any of the other QB's from JJ's class is doing? From what I can tell he might be doing the best so far of all of them.

I'm with you. I don't see how anyone is going to possibly beat a 151 yd per game passing average, 2.5 yards per carry or a 1-1 record as a starting QB.

The #1 hasn't had a chance to play because Chase Daniel is in front of him. #7 will start at Miami this season. #9 is Ryan Mallett's backup. #23 is Jevan Snead's backup.

That's what I got after a very brief glance at the list. If you couldn't come up with that you don't know much about football. Also, dude, the reason you haven't heard much about these QB's is because they were all TRUE FRESHMEN last year. Nobody starts a true freshman at QB unless they're in dire straits.

To say the 2008 rankings are "worthless" because a bunch of quarterbacks didn't play as freshmen and/or because you personally haven't heard of them is stupid bullshite.

The kid has 2 starts under his belt. The first one he did plenty enough to win. The defense shite their pants @ Arky. In his second start he dismantled what was suppose to be a pretty good GT defense. No, he didn't put up flashy numbers but if the penalty doesn't get called on LaFell's 80yd TD he would have been 17-26, 222yds and 2 TDs. That's a little better than 60%. If he puts those kinds of numbers up with the running game we're going to have.... well, you won't have very much to smile about this year Gump.

I love the rant, another self serving ignorant rant. I only follow LSU and Vandy. Everything else I learn is from this board, which I know I have to be guarded with. And if you think the star system is accurate then you don't know anything about football. It's all about how a player develops in the system he's in.

You guys were also recruiting Dayne Crist over JJ yourselves. If your point is that recruiting is not an exact science you might as well say water is wet.

I agree that the star system is very hit-or-miss, but you were trying to prove a point using a very poor premise.

You calling my rant "ignorant" is pretty funny. The entire premise of the thread you started is ignorant.

I don't really remember how it all went down but I though JJ committed pretty early no?

You guys were recruiting him pretty hard. I thought he shoudl have gone to you guys over Notre Dame. He would have been the starter last season for sure. He has all the tools, interesting to see if Weiss plays him at all this season.

Jacory Harris

did have a similar game statistically against Georgia Tech:
quote:

Completed 13-of-18 passes for 162 yards and two touchdowns at Georgia Tech

LINK

and he did ok in his bowl game:
quote:

Threw for a career-high 194 yards with a career-best 25 completions on 41 attempts against Cal in the Emerald Bowl.

both Harris and Jefferson ended up starting for teams that were not expecting them to have to do so.

Jacory Harris is the starter at the U. He is supposed to have some real promise but is relatively unproven...a lot like JJ actually.

He's a dual threat, no?

Sort of. He's more of a pro-style QB that has no trouble getting away from pressure. Dual threat to me is a Pat White type.
