Alabama- Namath
Auburn- Sullivan
Arkansas- Joe Ferguson
LSU- Bert Jones
Ole Miss- Archie Manning
Miss St.- Madkin
South Carolina- Todd Ellis
Tennessee-Manning
Kentucky- Blanda
Florida- Shane Mathews
Georgia- Tarkenton
Vandy- Cutler
I know there are many others that you can place in this list. But I will take Mathews over Danny Wuerfuel because he was the guy that got Florida rolling after and he didnt share time like Dean and Wuerfuel. I know Crouch smashed records at UK but the system allowed for it. Greene and Tarkenton are 1 and 1A.
Just my opinion.

I would consider Y.A. Tittle. LSU and Pro Hall of Famer.

You leave off Crouch because the system allowed him to look good, yet you put a Spurrier QB for UF? The Run&Shoot system allowed Matthews to be good, same as Tony Franklin's offense did for Crouch...

If just based upon their SEC play, you may have to put guys like Tim Couch above Blanda and David Greene above Tarkenton. Spurrier at UF also has to get a look.

Hodson, Tyler, Russell, Davey in no particular order. Someone from that mix.

Actually if you look at all of Spurriers teams with Wuerrfuel and Terry Dean they both had over 1000 yd rushers. They used the run to set up everything. I think that Matthews had to do more with less around him.

BTW The Namath pick is subjective too, he was a good player no doubt, but he's usually thought as the best due to his name recognition. Kenny Stabler was just as good, but he split time with Steve Sloan. It xan be said that Pat Trammell was the best QB, but it was a different game when he played...

I had trouble with that one also I wanted to take Stabler or Jay Barker. You can consider what happend to Namath by suspensions against him. You can not discount that Barker just won also. Also I had issue with not giving Buck Belue credit for losing just 1 game in 2 years, even though all he did was give or toss the ball to Herschel, but he did have a couple big plays, but ultimately going 0 fer in the Sugar Bowl made me leave him off.

I'd say Rockey Felker was our best QB.

What records does Matthews set with Fred Taylor? I think he was much more effective than Ericht Rhett. You could make a vague argument that Kerrwin Bell was best QB at UF.
Again this was just my opinion and I dont discount or discredit your opinion.

quote:The thing is in college, no one single great Bama QB is head and shoulders above the others. Namath and Stabler both had suspensions, but can't really hold it against them. Barker and Belue were both products or their surroundings. Take Walker or Bama's '92 D away, average careers. But again, you cannot fault them for falling into perfect situations...

If I dont watch out I might teach a Florida Fan the history of their own program...they probably dont even know who Charlie Pell or Wayne Peace are.

I just think Barker did more than he got credit for. I also guess I was so used to seeing RB's at Bama like Humphrey, Ogilvie, etc that I am not giving Williams the credit for carrying the offense.

Not only Sherman, but Palmer helped that offense go. Barker was great at what he did, but I don't think he'll ever shake the "game manager" tag...

I think the only real solid for sure pick I have on my list would be Cutler...you can poke holes in that whole list.
