Bama expectations

Asked a bama fan yesterday what their real expectations were for next year and what would be considered a good year and I left speechless. The answer... they 100% expect a NC and would consider the year a failure if they didn't win the SEC championship. He then told me he thinks Florida will repeat as Champs so I guess he's setting himself up for failure.

This. I would suspect that you could find a person from every team in the SEC, save MSU, Vandy, and Kentucky that 100% expect a national championship this year.

I have no doubt that bama will play extremely good defense this year, but no one (including bama fans) knows how the offense will perform with a new QB.
That being said, I think there are a lot of bama fans who think that anything less than a NC this year will be a failure. Probably more common than you care to admit.

I have yet to talk to a single person that feels this way. Please peruse through a couple of Bama boards and see for yourself

Anybody that expects a NC is an idiot. I think we realistically have a shot at playing in the SEC CG and if we make it there I think we have a chance to win the game.

Alabama makes it to Atlanta with one loss
and barely beats Fla for the SEC Championship

Are you on the side of the other Bama posters?
My take is that a one-loss SEC team who makes it through the west (with 2 preseason top 10's and a top 15 in LSU) and goes on to beat another top 10 UF in the SECCG will very likely be playing for a NC. Is it your position that you will lose that game? Otherwise, you are making a pretty good point for me to the other bama posters.

This can happen but I'm not as sure as this guy. I'm not even sure that he is 100% confident. But, if he is, that makes 1 out of 4 Bama fans expecting no less than an SECC in this thread.

Fair enough.
I will go on record to say that percentage will increase dramatically if you beat VT.
I'm really not trying to bust your balls, but I just remember how many Bama fans were pissing and moaning about not being number one in 2005 after the eight or nine game winning streak...despite not looking like the best team in the country, and prior to the wheels falling off. The same was going on last year. I'm not making this stuff up.
As for my expectations:
Bama expectations: 9-3 (6-2) with losses to VT, Piss, and LSU.
Piss goes 10-2 (6-2)and wins the head to head with Bama.
LSU goes 9-3 or 8-4 (5-3 or 4-4), but in a more respectable fashion than last year. Dominates another team in a bowl game. We have a good chance at doing better, but we still have youth at QB and concerns at OL. Defense will be much improved with talent all around...but to what extent is still uncertain. We will be very good, but not great. Poised for another NC run in 2010.

I've talked to a couple of LSU fans this summer that are saying the EXACT same thing about their team. I as a Bama fan am not expecting a NC this year, but to think that LSU will win it all this time around is even more farfetched.

I don't doubt that. However, if you read the rant then you'll see that the far majority are not predicting a NC season.

I don't disagree. Either team getting to the NC is a lofty expectation at this point. Bama has a lot to prove with a new QB. I think LSU will be pretty solid at QB and we still have tons of playmakers. After all we were still 4th in scoring offense last year despite all the picks. If the defense plays up to the talent level then LSU will be hard to beat by anyone.
Just too many "ifs" with both teams, but Bama is certainly coming off of a better season and are in a better position. We'll get a better idea after a few games are played.
BTW, your farks are funny.

Check out the tidefans.. it's more than "just one fruitcake"
There's a few rational posters.. but they're in a similar situation to LSU last season (Except their good season didn't result in hardware).

You can mark me down as saying LSU will have a better year than both The Tide and the Rebels.
If the defense is truly back to pre 2008 levels, the Tigers have a realistic chance of winning the SEC CG. People forget that LSU's defense ranked either first or second in the SEC every year until 2008.
Winning the SEC CG is tantamount to winning the BCS title.

that is a big if. Especially with Bama returning what they are and Florida what they have. Both were young defenses and will be pretty good. To climb from the 8th spot in the conference in total defense and expect to pass everyone else is gonna be one helluva climb. I don't see Florida's, Bama's and maybe Tenn/Auburn dropping off much, all which were better last year.

6-6 for Bama and 5th in the West.
AU will go 12-0 and play Florida in Atlanta.
Book it.
Ok, seriously...
I am going with 9-3 for Bama and 2nd in the West.
I think LSU will win the West at 10-2. Similiar talent to Bama and a more experienced qb means a win in T-town.
Ole Miss third at 8-4. I think they are unbelievably overated as a top 10 team.
