why is LSU so much ahead of the rest of the pack. Auburn, Bama, Tennessee, and UGA are all fine bands, but LSU is always regarded as head and shoulders better. Is it directors, money???

Simple state of fact, plus musical heritage in Louisiana >>>>>>> any other southern state by a factor of roughly 10000

whats surprising is that Florida is bottom 3 or so in the league.

I do not believe FL gives scholarships for band and it shows.

Their band doesn't do their team justice. I was really underwhelmed the last time they came to BDS.

Louisiana high school bands are also better than those from Texas or Mississippi. I have no idea why, but it's true in my experience.

I think we should rent the Southern University Band and get jiggy wit it at half time.

New Orleans is part of Louisiana so if you had a point I missed it

I will agree with zero hesitation that the LSU band is head and shoulders above the rest of the SEC.

plus I'd say less than half the band comes from within 1.5 hours of Louisiana

No way! Holy shite, I had no idea.
Lighten up dude, quit acting cynical all the time. I was just saying that New Orleans alone has more musical heritage than anywhere in the south.

I'd rank em:
LSU
Auburn
Georgia
Alabama
Tennessee
and then the rest arent even worth mentioning. They are all so equally not impressive.

LSU has the best band. I have Hold That Tiger on CD and a techno version of Hold that Tiger that's pretty cool. Ole Miss has a smaller band I think but I would put them on up there on the list for the simple fact that they play Dixie and From Dixie With Love (Slow Dixie) so well. Mississippi State's band is real loud. Has anyone else noticed how loud State's band is?

Can you really say that considering what Mississippi and Tennessee have contributed to American music? Hell, Alabama and Georgia are no slouches in that area either, although they would be behind the aforementioned three.
