recruiting battles between SEC schools that had the most impact on fortunes within the conference....I'd say Tim Tebow, hands down
Final choices:
UF, Bama
Consequences:
UF wins '06 and '08 national titles.
Bama fires Shula and hires Saban. If Tebows goes to Bama, perhaps Shula is still the coach, and Bama has some championship hardware. Or maybe Bama prevents LSU from winning their championships. Who knows...
But I don't think UF wins either national title without Tebow. People forget how critical he was on '06 coming off the bench as a change-of-pace for Leak.
Can anyone top that?

Tebow would be significantly worse outside of Meyer's system. Especially in Shula's "system."

no, can't top that one in recent memory.
But I always like the Harvey Williams story.

I knew the day he signed with UF he would come back to haunt us. Had Tebow not been at UF this year, we wouldn't have had to play Utah.

You probably would have still had Shula as your coach so yeah Utah would have been the best you could hope for.

ohhhh, that's a good one.
Who was his second choice? Ole Miss?

"I was always an Alabama fan growing up, but when the Alabama recruiter told me I would probably not be able to play until the end of my sophomore year, or the beginning of my junior year".

It's tough to say considering we haven't had the recruiting info we have up until 7 or 8 years ago.
Tebow is the obvious choice, but I would say Cadillac. Who knows what would've happened with AU, UT, and Bama had he made a different choice.

The Tebow/Bama/Shula saga wins. The Peyton/Ole Miss battle is a close second. I still think PM got a heads up, and knew Billy Brewer was about to get Ole Miss is a shitload of trouble.

Wildcat,
Even though it's a bit over 20 years, I agree. Auburn landing Bo Jackson was crucial to the rise of its program in the 80s. He was truly amazing.

Just read a Kevin Faulk article that said he was recruited pretty hard by UF...that would have made struggling LSU teams even worse.
