Atlanta's best ballers, if stay in-state at all, and not leave for the ACC and Big East elite programs lately, choose GT over UGA possibly despite their NC title game HC Paul Hewitt, of whom the argument is varied. Because, even if GT underachieves it has ACC competition pedigree, and has it's NBA production reputation going back to Cremins and his loads of NYC ballers.
Also, hasn't Donovan landed a few Georgia players in this past decade?
UGA's half-empty arena with a bunch of football-fan frat-boy mullets popping out from under their baseball caps while killing time until Spring Football practice, is one sorry-@ss backdrop to see in their tv games.

I partially agree with your points, but I think the right coach/recruiter could turn things around greatly. There are a lot of schools (Florida included) that just werent really relevant until a Coach K/Billy D/dozens of other examples walked thru the door and had some time to build a program.
Tech is on the decline, and Georgia is a hoops hotbed. Is he going to get kids away from Duke or UCLA, probably not, but he can certainly improve the talent level (win battles against Clemson, Florida, etc) and get us headed back the right way. Tubby was on his way prior to leaving.
All that said, trying to be objective, if OU ponied up and matched the offer, I would think it is a MAJOR downgrade for Capel to leave. I love UGA, but working to get a program simply relevant < working to win conf titles and stay in the top 10. Hopefully they wont...we really need a big splash if we hope to build a solid program.

Georgia is a sleeping giant! The right guy could keep the talent at home. Winning brings fans. Tennessee hasn't done anything. Ga can compete with Florida. Look what Donovan has done for UF.Ga has talent base and money. They need a coach to bring in the players.
