i am by nature a cockeyed pessimist

but this guy really seems to get it

of course it remains to be seen how he will react when the bagmen who are all agreeable now start trying to tell him how the program ought to be run, but it seems to me he wont either a) be an a-hole and tell them “go frick off, or fire me and pay me my buyout” a la Harsin, or 2) say “aw shucks, yall are right, whatever yall think is best” like Freezus

My favorite line when discussing boosters.

T Boone Pickens gave Oklahoma State 650 million dollars. They asked the football coach if he intervened in the program. The coach said "No I wouldnt say that, but I gotta be honest if I was on the phone with my wife and he called, I would have to say honey Ill call you back Mr. Pickens is on the other line".

Regarding Auburn. I have read that they ask for a three year commitment from the boosters, which makes sense given we are probably asking the same from the players on the spending side.

I also think they dont pledge money for a specific player. Which also makes sense. Its one of the things Lane Kiffin warned about when NIL started. A booster donates for a specific QB and then starts pressuring the coach to put him in.
