His brother (my good friend) drinks. His younger brother didn’t even drink. But he still died cold and alone.

I know this is a sad time, but here are some thoughts from a very old cat who may not be the smartest book learning person but got my doctorate in the school of life.

#1 In grade school I was voted by my classmates as least likely to make my 16th birthday. Here I am, probably the oldest person on this site.

#2 So many people in my life are dead and buried. Some died by their own hand. Some by "self medicating" aka booze / smokes / drugs - some of these wound up institutionalized or basically brain dead from this self medication route. Some went to prison and already dead or will in all probability die there. These were all self inflicted life choices.

#3 A whole bunch are in the "died too damn young". Some killed by drunk drivers when the drivers walked away unharmed. Some by medical such as brain tumor or virus. Some like your friends brother by random arse crap that makes no sense at the time and makes even less sense as time marches on and you just get older.

#4 It is what it is, but your life is unfair is approaching it from the wrong place in the well being of your mind, body, and soul. Events are not fair or unfair they are just the Yin and Yang of existing this side of the dirt nap. How you process the event and how you shrink or grow from these tests of life will reflect how you choose to live it.

It helps, think of the cartoon character "Charlie Brown"

Other of similar negative imagery

I, however, view old Charlie Brown as "ALL HEART M*TH*RF*CK*R" aka Cuba Gooding Jr in Jerry Maguire or Don Quixote tilting at windmills. They are the eternal optimist to me and the very definition of survivors. Take some time today and watch "Secondhand Lions" and consider this part of the speech all men need to hear.

The choice is yours as to which society you wish to spend your time on Earth.
