His run had an indelible effect on college football.

And ironically enough, one of the two is Bama’s coach.

Whether Deboer was the best hire is still up for discussion but I think that was smart to go that route. Too many teams want to try and keep something going after a great coach bu trying to copy or clone what they had and it seldom works.

Maybe if NIL went live in 2040 instead of 2021...or if a UGA alumnus suddenly founds a multibillion $ startup
I think those days are gone, we're moving to NFL Jr. which is a horrible decision IMO

I don't think Kirby will have a run like Saban... but I think it will still be seen as a run.
UGA either made the 12 team playoff or would have made a 12 team playoff had it existed every year Smart has been at UGA other than his first.
I do think it will be a rare thing for UGA to NOT be in the playoff any year going forward. And while UGA won't win a national title every year and probably won't win any back to back again, they'll win their share (1-2 a decade) because they'll have a shot every season.
Would you be shocked if in 2046 (30 years of Kirby Smart) he retired with 20-25 playoff appearances and 5-7 national titles (given he's already got 5 playoff appearances and 2-3 national titles in 10 seasons, only 2 of which had 12 team playoffs)
Note: The 2-3 above is there since UGA is still alive this season for a title.
