The makers of the film said that the jersey scene from the whole team did not actually occur. Several scholarship players did offer their spot to let Rudy dress for the game and the makers made it more dramatic. Also, Devine was not the a-hole they made him out to be in the movie. He was all in on Rudy starting and was more than willing to honor Parseghian's promise to Rudy.
They said there was a story in the student newspaper the week of the GA Tech game and some in the student section did chant for Rudy. So, no. It wasn't the entire stadium, but it wasn't like no one did.
His dad and family were very proud of Rudy and did not try to crush his dream as it was portrayed in the movie.
The janitor, played by Charles S. Dutton, was not a real person but a combination of people who helped Rudy as he went through his struggles to play a game for Notre Dame.
I loved Rudy from the moment I saw it. I'm not sure why a guy like Montana who has everyone telling him he's one of the greatest ever needed to crap on Rudy.
They did carry him off the field and while the players who did it said it was not the emotional scene at the end of the movie, they did admire him and his work ethic and it wasn't just doing it as a joke. They were excited for him that he got a tackle in a real football game.
A fellow teammate: “Rudy was carried off the field that day . . . but not as a joke -- but because he finally got to play,” Jay Achterhoff said. “You’ve never in your life seen a guy who wanted to be on the field more.”

Commonplace for all sports movies based on real events. The Friday Night Lights movie was an absolute clusterfrick in regard to accuracy. The Permian/Carter game was a semifinal game played outdoors in the rain in real life. Not to mention they could never play in a state championship due to the regions they are in.

Anyone who wants to see a great football movie that has very little in it that is enhanced for dramatic effect, check out American Underdog. It's the story of Kurt Warner. Some of it was so unbelievable I checked to see if it was the way the movie portrayed it and found out that in almost every case it was.
I'll add that if they ever do one on Stetson Bennett, they won't have to add a whole lot to it.

I liked it but I am also a big sports documentary/movie junkie. You have to go in knowing there will be slant and creative license. There are a few exceptions with the 30 for 30 series (The Two Escobar's, Survive and Advance, Fantastic Lies) are some of the best.
The gold standard is Hoop Dreams. The documentary team hit gold following two inner city kids trying to make it to college. No punches were pulled; they gave a rare unfiltered look into life two kids growing up poor and looking for a way out. They two took completely different directions and the ending was better than what Disney could produce. If you have not seen it, I highly recommend it.
