Would Ole Miss have won the West this year (if it still existed)?

Ole Miss beat LSU, Arky, and State.

They definitely would’ve beaten Auburn.

They probably would’ve beaten A&M and Vandy (former crossover game).

I think it just comes down to where do they play Bama and is UGA the other team from the East that they play. If they play Bama on the road and have to play UGA, they don’t win the West. If they play Bama at home and dodge UGA, they win the West.

If not for Texas and Oklahoma joining, Ole Miss would’ve likely played in their first SECCG this year.

No. WAOM would have happened regardless.

A system of complicated tiebreakers determined who went to Atlanta this year. A & M, Georgia, Alabama and Ole Miss were all 7-1. As I recall, during rivalry week, it came down to Alabama versus Georgia or Ole Miss versus Georgia. If Auburn had beaten Alabama, it would have been Georgia versus Ole Miss.

All that said, it may be time for conferences to do away with title games, especially if the playoff expands to 16. The name of the game will be the playoff. Instead, just award the team or teams who won the regular season a league title and wait for the playoffs. This year, for instance, if that system had been in place, the SEC would have declared a quad-championship. Some of these tiebreakers are ridiculous and devalue what a given time does any particular year.
