G5 teams have to be in the Top 12 or their spot falls to an at large

This is embarrassing and anyone who understands football and the level of talent across the board on these teams made it clear this is exactly how it would play out. The same people who pushed and pushed for the unlimited portal that has gutted these G5 teams still want them to have “a shot”, whatever the hell that means.
This isn’t basketball. Absolute waste of everyone’s time.

Doesn’t help that Tulane has bad coaching
A well coached g5 team like Petersen at Boise or frost in 2017 UCF can compete

We haven’t had a worthy G5 since Boise and TCU in the late 00’s.
The gap is just way too wide now

And in a reasonable setup where you have to be in the Top 12 they would have been in. G5 teams should have a reasonable path, but not an auto bid every year.
And those Boise/UCF teams best players would be on P4 teams by their 3rd year in 2025 football. Those G5 teams with solid NFL players and lots of old depth don’t exist anymore.

The NIL has crushed those schools....they dont have the bankroll of the power teams.

Agree. And even then they should be able to opt into a G5 playoff.

Transfer portal and not having to sit a year has ensured no G5 team can accumulate enough talent

Yet the media and athletic directors/ administrators (who never played high level sports) are pushing football in that direction with every passing year.
ETA: And I still can’t believe Cincinnati made it into the 4 team CFP in 2021.
