So that teams like Boise State (last year) can’t bitch about being left out?

Also because LSU fans cried and cried and cried about 21-0, so they expanded it. Now they cry some more

Pretty much. Every now and then, there are teams like that. When they get left out, they can always make BS claims about how good they would have done had they been invited. This puts an end to that.

And it's a good thing IMO. Give teams like Tulane and James Madison a taste of what big-boy football is really like, and you won't have to listen to them bitch for the rest of the year.

At least there is some sort of value from that. But when teams like OU or Alabama get invited, nobody gains anything. (There is a reason why they are set to play each other in the first round) What will we learn from their games? That they are pretty good teams but nowhere near relevant when it comes to trying to figure out who the national champion should be. We already knew that. Same applies to ND.
