Question about conf championship

They say the loser shouldn’t be penalized. Why do they effectively get two shots at the cfp championship?
IMO conf championship should be the first round of the playoffs. I would really prefer an 8 team playoff, only power 4, with conf championships as first round. It would solve the problem of teams who shouldn’t be there and push ND to a conference as well. Don’t like seeing the playoff get bigger but seems that’s the way it’s going.

You run into anti-trust issues when you exclude G5 teams from a chance at the championship.

These games should absolutely be the “first round”

Can't the G5 have their own Championship? Nobody is stopping them.

It’s silly that they get to compete with power 4. They could do the same with conf champions of g5.

Rose Bowl was allowed to lock the rest of CFB out, and just go with the Big 10 and Pac.
We could have a tournament similar to that, but with the 4 big conferences.

In theory, yes.
But the problem is that the loser of the SECCG (i.e., the team that gets knocked out) is probably better than half the field that actually gets in.
The only way that works is with overall schedule parity, like divisions in the NFL.

We shouldn't even have to play the game. We've already beaten them at their place.
Right?
Right?
