I wish the next generation of South Eastern Conference Ballers luck in their academic and athletic endeavors.

NFL GMs will tell even the most successful general managers are batting less than .500 in their evaluations. That number is probably even more sporadic in College Football, maybe for factors that you as a fan wouldn’t even consider. 3star or 5star, you never really know what you got.

Texas was a pre-season #1 after two consecutive years of producing 10+ NFL draft picks. Pundits looked at recruiting rankings of particular returning players and made their pick. Even Sark was burned this year along the offensive line. He returned four seniors on the interior offensive line who hadn’t played much ball and opted out of portal additions. As we know now, it was a disaster that didn’t stabilize until November and cost a very talented Texas team a shot at the playoffs.

This stuff isn’t an exact science. It’s not as black and white as going out and buying whatever your perceived needs are. There is so much that no coach, player, administration, or fan could ever predict.

I’ll leave yall with a cool note on one of my favorite Longhorns. Jaylan Ford was the lowest ranked recruit in the Texas 2020 class. Check any service. A class that contributed to a ton of Longhorn wins and playoff berths. He ended up being An All-American, an NFL Linebacker, and one of the all time leading tacklers in Texas Football History.

I’m curious how Oregon does it. They seem to splurge in both the HS and Portal ranks. How does that even work? Seems like most programs pick one and only dabble in the other.

I was beaten to the punch. Obviously Phil Knight and the fact the school spent an average of $260,000 per recruit this year. More than any other school in the USA. The State of Oregon does not produce great football players, they buy them.

Aren’t there Rev Share restrictions now? And a NIL Deal QA process?

You’re probably more knowledgeable of that than I am. If you look up team recruiting rankings, you will see the average amount spent per player to the far right. Knight has previously stated he wants a championship team before he dies (he is 86 years old, I believe). FYI: Texas spent approximately $157,000 per player.

There’s much made about the Texas schools and their resources, but you don’t really see that in the way they construct their rosters. Texas spends heavy on defensive premium positions in the HS ranks, yet have gotten their arse kicked in OL & TE recruiting for years now. We had an Elite DT snatched by North Carolina today. I assume if they “unlimited money” glitch thing was a reality, you’d be racking up stars at every position.

Texas wants a potential recruit who loves the university and wants to play at Texas. Last year we stole a defensive lineman from Georgia, listed as a 5 star. If the truth be known, we probably offered the young man more money. I really do not know. In this time, with NIL and open portal, I believe it is about money for most of these young men who are listed as some of the very best players at their position (4star-5star players). NIL, my opinion only, will destroy the game I have loved since a child. It is about the money. A prime example of this is Oregon. Not one player from the State of Oregon. All bought and payed for by Mr. Phil Knight, owner of Nike.
