A roughly $150 million renovation to Bud Walton Arena is still part of the department’s plans, but it remains on the “side burner,” Yurachek said Thursday.

Though a large-scale project is still roughly 3 to 5 years away from happening, some deferred maintenance is imminent. Items on that list are being “chipped away at,” including replacing the arena’s roof beginning within the next 4 to 5 weeks.

Yurachek said the department will “probably dust off” the fundraising campaign in 2 to 3 years, after the University of Arkansas concludes its 3-year, $200 million Land of Opportunity Scholarship campaign.

“We've got a great design for [the full] renovation,” Yurachek said. “But as we were getting ready to go out to the marketplace, the university was entering into a $200 million capital campaign at the same time, and I felt it was disingenuous for us to step on the toes of their campaign and to go out and approach many of the same donors for our campaign.”

Other deferred maintenance needed includes replacing the playing court, HVAC system repairs and plumbing and electrical system work. As of last year, those costs were estimated between $50 million and $60 million.

Good, the university comes first

Bring on the downvotes. But UA has bigger needs than renovating a 30 year old building used 30 days a year

As someone who frequents Bud often…it doesn’t need the whole seat redesign HY is wanting to do…

Update the concourse area with new flooring/tile and update all the signage on the wall and the same for the main BWA entrance…it’s not as complex as he is trying to make it out to be by adding some premium seating and lowering capacity.

Didn't Jeff Long run into trouble because some of his "upgrades" to facilities cost a lot more than he had originally said they would and some of them weren't really needed?

Yes, the coaches you choose make a difference, but when the books become unbalanced then a bad coach becomes a great excuse to shite can you.

String together a few unforgettable seasons and funding for Bud Walton won’t be an issue.

Win a natty and we’ll pay to gold plate the damn thing!

Concourse should be the main project they are focusing on.

The bathrooms need to be gutted and expanded. Walk in a men's room before a game and its shoulder to shoulder and half the foot peddle sinks in the center of the restroom don't work. I assume the women's isn't much different. Upgrade the concession areas, and brighten and clean the place up.

Complete that phase first, then if you have money go for the premium seating.

Yep, 100%

IF you truly care about the fan experience...then phase 1 of the facelift should 100% be the concourse (I include concessions, signage, restrooms in this) and completely remodel the historical area by the store at the main entrance. Remodel the steps, all flooring, etc.

On the actual interior of the building (seats, scoreboard, etc.) nothing major is needed right this minute, but when you walk around the concourse it is a trip back in time to when it opened in 1993.
