Long overdue?
Wish it waited until the season was over?

Pittman seemed like a helluva nice guy, but I never felt like he was really taking Arkansas anywhere.

I hope he’s having col’ beer right now.

There was consensus two years ago.

He should have voluntarily retired 3 years ago.

Why would any coach voluntarily retire with the guaranteed money being thrown around.

He was asked to retire with a reduced buyout and refused, because of that contract we are where we are today.

Some feel sorry for him, none should.

We didn't make this idea up. It's what he told us that he was gonna do.

The he didn't follow through.

Fundamentals for him which I think are random in modern football. Fumbles, drops, bad tackles, and penalties can strike us all.

This was exactly what happened with Gundy. They gave him the option to retire and finish the season. He told them to kick rocks. They fire him and he collected 15 million. Hell I'd make them fire me too for that kind of money.

Retire, and give up millions? Only a moron would do that. That is like LSU fans praying for Kelly to retire. No coach is retiring these days except for Nick Saban with a legacy on the line.

Saban also had a sports job waiting for him.

I’m glad Arkansas went ahead and pulled the plug - how much you owe him?

9.6

The advantage to voluntarily retiring (with buyout) is you can have a seamless transition to off the field with less vitriol thrown your way.

Sam said repeatedly this was his last job and he planned to live in the state afterwards. It would avoid the decades long process of making amends with the fanbase. He would actually have earned more respect by doing so, especially after this year's performance.

Again, we didn't come up with this idea. He said in his opening press conference that he loved the school (He grew up watching razorback Football with his grandfather) so much that if it became apparent that he could not longer perform the functions of the job adequately, that he would resign.

This was his quote "last job".

We never thought of him as some genius. We just took him at his word.

But 9.6M would be hard to give up. Could you do it?

It wasn't an either or proposition.

He would get his buyout, he and the AD would have saved face with the fanbase.

frick em they made their bed.

This same deal was made with Nutt after the Tennessee loss in 07 ( last time Arkansas has lost to Tennessee).

He ended up stabbing the administration in the back by accepting the ole miss job after his golden hand cuffs were removed.

He now lives in New Mexico.

It was time.

He did a great job of pulling us out of the Morris gutter. Infused hope back into the program early in his time on the hill. His aw shucks, cobeer, yessirrr approach worked until it didn't.

Not entirely his fault with the lack of NIL. One thing Sam proved at places like UGA, if you have 5* talent, you can be buddies and still win. We don't, so we needed more program management and gameday decisions.

If football is a game of inches, coaching is a game of decisions. In the close 1 score games, Sam failed. He bears the burden for a rudderless Defense. This was his retirement parachute and most knew that, but not an excuse to not lead the team.
