That was the year to make a change. Sam went 4-8 in his 4th year as head coach of the razorbacks. Every other AD in the league would have fired their coach in that situation. HY doubled down on Pittman with the plan to use money that would have gone to a buyout to fund NIL. Very bold move that turned out to be incredibly stupid. Two years later we’re in a worst spot with nothing to show for it. HY has to be held accountable.

2022 was the year to make the change. The A&M and Liberty losses that year showed you who he was. 2023 was when even the reticent holdovers didn't have any excuses left.

HY made sure that wasn't possible with that contract.

Really should've been last year, if we wanted to do the smartest thing. There were 0 openings in the SEC and only a couple P4 openings to compete with, none really on our level. We had just won 6 games (7 including bowl) so the next coach wouldn't be coming into a 2-10 or 3-9 totally hopeless program and locker room. We had a little bit to sell to a coach.
It also would've shown to prospective coaches that you'll get 5 years here to prove yourself, barring Morris-like results. 2022 would've been too early after firing Chad after two.

Those were bad but it’s still a tough sell coming off of 9-4 and 7-6 at Arkansas.
4-8 with how pitiful the offense was definitely should have though. That’s consistent regression.
