Numb to it all. I did fear I might end like that.
Sometimes it's just not your night. Last night was one of those nights.

Honestly it all felt too much like 2007, the lofty questionable ranking and all + they were due for one

Very Very disappointed. I think we have seen enough to really want to push Shula out. I have very little faith in him.
Dbs were as bad as ive seen them. LB's did very little.
From an officiating side, we just never catch the breaks. Vandy held all game, we had a few PI's not get called, and then that late whistle took back 7 points. It didnt get blown until 2 seconds after the snap.
Hats off to Vandy. That program has an identity now. They bullied us, and won in the trenches.
*I still ride with shane, and don't think one loss should have us turning on him. There was a lot of that from some posters towards the end of the game. That said, maybe they have never liked him because they are rarely around for the wins....which as a fanbase is frustrating to see. Lonnie, SOS, heck even CarolinaGamecock99, they are around all the time. I might not like how it can get negative from them, but they are around. It's the ones that only come around when stuff is bad that just rub me the wrong way.

I was concerned that out over aggressive defense was going to bite us and it did but our offense, AGAIN, has no identity and doesn't know what it wants to do. This game is 100% on the coaches

I don't have a good feeling about this Beamer, Shula, and Sellers arrangement. We didn't get official word about Sellers "concussion" until like 24 hours after the fact. I was hoping the BS we saw in the bowl game was a one time thing, but I saw the vibes from that game reappear Saturday night and it's very alarming to me.
This is also Beamer's 5th year here and there are still some issues in this football program that should have been addressed already like player development, coaching hires, and wasted momentum.
He's definitely a top 3-5 coach in our program history, and I'm thankful for what he's accomplished here, but wouldn't be surprised if he's hit his ceiling and don't think I'd be all that upset if he took the VT job.

This should have been Beamer's breakthrough season. But he didn't navigate the off-season well, especially as it related to his OC and OL coaches. He had ample time to find the right guy as OC once Loggains left. He failed.
As a result, I do think he's hit his ceiling. If VaTech wants him, and he wants a soft place to land, it makes a ton of sense, as Sellers and Harbor (and likely Stewart, lets be honest) are all gone at season's end.
The question then becomes, who does SC realistically target as HC? If Shane leaves, and I don't blame him for doing so, who comes in? This isn't an attractive job to most people. It is to Shane. It is to Shawn Elliot. And that may indeed be the list.

I still think it's a little quick to be thinking about Shane's replacement and unfair to him.
I was on youtube and a video of the 84 season popped up. I watched it and enjoyed it, but when we got to the Navy game it made me start to think. What was the perception when that happened (8 years before my brith so I wasnt alive). Were fans screaming it was the worst loss in SC history, disappointing. etc? Were fans looking to ditch Morrison? What about next year when the team struggled to a losing record?
Fact is, this year could absolutely get really difficult to stomach and I get that, but it also feels like Gamecock fans have become fickle. Vandy is a ranked team, and damn good. I am not ready to see Shane leave, or entertain that thought.

I'm not gonna help him pack or anything, but Shane has some serious flaws, and over 4-plus years, he's shown a lack of willingness to make changes and get better as a coach. This year was the "golden opportunity" to get over the hump. If he cannot re-claim the season and beat a very well-coached Mizzou team that hates our guts and has owned us over the years, the team runs a serious risk of unraveling heading into the bye week.
If he thinks, like Muschamp did, that the problem isn't him, it's the place, then jumping to VaTech makes a lot of sense. This is a very difficult league, and this a difficult place to win (for whatever list of reasons exist). There's a lot to like about the VaTech job in comparison - far-easier league, in state competition isn't as stout, alma mater, etc.
I'm not convinced he's leaving. But if this season, with so much promise, rolls out to a 5-7 kinda year, he'd be wise to move on if he had an exit strategy. Next year here will be much tougher. Lots of talent leaving, and 9 conference games loom large. This was The Year to breakthrough.

I think that would be a huge mistake. VT is an absolute mess. Their AD makes ray look like a genius. They have had a few of those hot name coaches come through and just bomb.

Shane knows VT recruiting area very well. Stress will be less and with the portal a absolute mess becomes a success in one year. With that said I don't see him leaving USC for VT.
