I'm not worried about Tennessee's football team necessarily, but I was thinking abotu that trip this morning and realized that at the QB position specifically we are as worse heading into knoxville as we've been in 10 years. At least from an experience standpoint. GS has been around a while but has only started 1 game and this will be his first road start, yikes. Compare that to the past several:

2023- Beck's first year starting but the game was in November. He had already started a raod game at AU and in Jax by that point. Furthermore our team was really starting to gel at that point and had just come off a ~40 point thrashing of a top 10 ole miss tema. Brock and Ladd were Brock and Ladd, and Dillon Bell had his coming out party this game. The OL and Milton were solid as wlel.

2021- Stetson already had starting experience in 2020. In 2021 starts at AU and in Jax preceded knoxville as well.

2019-Fromm was an upperclassman in his 3rd year of starting

2017- Fromm was a TFr thrust into action, but he went on the road to ND in his first start and had 4 total games that season under his belt prior to konxville. As an aside, butch jones' team sucked awful this year so fromm wasn't asked to do a ton

2015- Here we have an upperclassman without a world class tema around him going to UT relatively early. Our only prior away game this year was vandy in week 2. You could argue that playing alabama the week before at least exposed us to seeing a great team before we met UT.

So then we have 2025. We have an older guy with barely any starting experience, whose 2025 schedule opens with 2 cupcakes at home then at UT in week 3. There aren'ta lot of true apples to apples type comparisions there in recent memory. We are counting on several transfers to immedily make an impact on offense in a new system, and our OL has been....shaky. Someone help convince me that we shouldn't have any trouble in week 3?

We start the SEC with Vols in Knox and Bama at home. We should have a pretty good idea about Gunner and the team after our 4th game.

We should be worried about this game. I hope GS is ready for this test because new year new team and that has always been a tough place to play at. Our defense should keep us in most games just need our OL and running game to take pressure off him from having to do it all.

They lose not only Nico, but their big loss is Dylan Sampson and 4 OLmen. Lest we forget, we mopped the floor with them last season when they had all of those players.

This new QB of theirs, Aguilor, put up impressive numbers, but at App st against the likes of Old Dominion and Texas St in the Sunbelt.

I think they are going to struggle to win 7 or 8 games. Not worried....

Kirby owns that offense and probably always will.

Now, at Auburn at night...is concerning.

That’s some of the CMRPTSD bubbling up. Yes it’s a road game in front of 100,000 drunk screaming hillbillies in GS’s first true road start. He’s got the moxie to keep his cool up there. ND fans were pretty loud in the Superdome and he had his faults, but overall he played well enough to be optimistic for this Fall. The OL has to be allow us to run the ball and the new WR’s have to play as advertised. The fact that they will have been playing together for roughly nine months at the point, gives me hope.

As far as the other stuff goes, UT lost Nico, Sampson, and four OL. Add to that, Kirby has never given up more than 17 points to a Heupel offense. So, will it be pretty up there? Probably not. But I expect us to be considerable favorites going to Knoxville.

Unlike many of our fans, I can assure you I have less than zero CMRPTSD. Just pointing out that this is as unproven as we've been at QB there in at least 10 years, which would be cause for concern against any opponent I would think?

Last season I felt confident that we'd beat the hell out of Tennessee because our players and fans were both hungry for a big home game, but this season I don't really have a feel for the game one way or the other.

The good news is that Tennessee will have a new quarterback and it's early in the season. The bad news is that Tennessee usually peaks early in the season our quarterback will be making his first start in an SEC road game. Carson Beck looked shaky against Auburn in 2023 and that whole game looked shaky.

All I do know is that if we lose that game we will be in pretty deep shite and would have to go 8-1 after that to make the playoffs without having to do the "best 9-3 team in the country" dnacelike Alabama and South Carolina had to do last season.

I’m concerned with more than just the trip to Knoxville with GS at QB. But yeah… I get it.

At least he’s been on the sideline and knows what it looks and sounds like in Neyland

Not worried about QB Arnold, he sucks balls under pressure and Kirby is going to bring it

Auburn also has a bye week before Georgia. Texas, Alabama, and Florida have bye weeks before they play Georga too. This is the 2nd year in a row that UGA has 4 SEC opponents who have a bye week before they play us. Tennessee, by comparison, has faced 0 and 1 bye week opponents in 2024 and 2025. Sankey and his team are trying hard to stop Kirby Smart's roll.

I guess it depends on whether Oklahoma is any better than last year. For the 2nd season in a row, Tennessee plays a relatively easy SEC schedule.

Of course; every SEC team has two bye weeks, so the average number of byes and opponent byes is two per team per season. But somehow, Georgia has 4 opponent byes this year and we had 4 last year.

The odds of Georgia randomly facing that many bye opponents two years in a row is close to zero, which means that someone in the SEC scheduling dept did it intentionally.

Probable 10RC starting QB, Joey Aguilar, is learning his fourth offense in the past 28 months. Just got to campus in May. I like our situation much better than theirs.

Not that it matters much, but I’d argue it’s the most “unproven” we have been at QB up there since 2019. 2017 true frosh Fromm had the start at ND but we brought close to 40,000 fans. We are getting into semantics now. Is it a question mark going into Knoxville? Yes, but I personally feel we have much bigger question marks other places.
