What's Muschamp up to?

The reason why Muschamp stepped back still never made any sense...

He’s still with the team, albeit in a diminished capacity. A big reason for the change in time commitment is because of his other son, Whit Muschamp. The youngest Muschamp signed with Vanderbilt as a member of the 2024 recruiting class.

“Will came and talked to me,” Georgia coach Kirby Smart said. “It was really important that he continued to be a major factor in his son’s life..” He wants to be able to watch his son develop and play. He got to see that firsthand with Jackson here who did a tremendous job for us. Every day, Coach Muschamp got to go on the practice field and be with his son. I can only imagine what that felt like for him and the satisfaction of seeing his son each day.”

Does Muschamp have an apartment in Nashville and he's hanging out at Vandy practice and sitting in the stands on Saturdays and watching his son hold a clipboard? Seems like "being a major factor in his son's life" would've been stepping back in 2023 during his son's senior year so they could've actually hung out more and watched his son play on Friday nights and done the whole Friday night lights thing instead of been on the road recruiting.

Definitely not knocking Muschamp. He's a DGD and it's his life and he can do whatever he wants to do. The one foot in and one foot out thing is just a little strange, and the explanation from Kirby and the SID was even stranger.

Kirby sets the bar very high.... And you are either with him in it or left behind. That said some may come and go as the family life ebbs and flows.

Like even more of a mystery because he was a great Oline coach.

Probably got tired of working hard to build relationships with kids only for them to go to the highest bidder.

And then if you do get one to commit, you have to derecruit them and hope they don't transfer out after 1 year.

I'm surprised more coaches don't step back and or retire like Ray Goff did after grabbing a ton of cash from one of these high profile head coaching contracts. They are pretty much set for life and could do any # of business ventures.

I assume it’s because they do actually love football and coaching.

Ray didn’t grab a ton of money. No one would hire him for football and he fell into a number of very fortunate business deals due to some relationships.

His Zaxby's buddies are officially billionaires and pretty much retired.
