After 3 rounds, the top 15 advance to play a fourth round. After the fourth round, the top eight play a bracket of match play for the title.

Stanford is #1, but Texas, Arkansas and South Carolina are top 10 teams and should be in the running for the natty.

Teams outside the top 10 to watch #12 LSU and #18 Mississippi State. Both could crash the top 8 here and have good experience.

Dang there are some teams on the struggle bus today, but stroke play is 3 -4 days, so a long way to go.

CARLSBAD, Calif. — The 2025 NCAA Women's Golf Championship is underway.

The best teams in women's college golf are at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa's North Course for the second straight year battling it out for a national title. Stanford is the defending national champion and is the No. 1 team in the field this week. Play started Friday morning, kicking off four rounds of stroke play.

Golfweek article

Top seeds struggle
For the teams ranked Nos. 1-3, it was a rough afternoon at Omni La Costa.

Stanford, which hasn't lost in stroke play all year, shot 5 over in the first round and is 11 shots behind Vanderbilt after day one. Arkansas and South Carolina, Nos. 2 and 3 respectively, were worse, signing for team scores of 9 over.

The afternoon wave is notoriously more difficult, but seeing the top teams struggle early is a bit of surprise. They'll tee off first thing Saturday morning, however, and in what's expected to be easier conditions, expect all three teams to make a move up.

SEC Golfer of the year Maria Jose Marin of Arkansas has the lead in the clubhouse at -9 for the individual championship. The closest player to her is Elsa Svensson of LSU who was 6 shots back with 9 holes to play.

Make that 4 shots back with 7 holes to play. Svensson has birdied her last 2 holes.

EDIT: Maria Jose Marin wins individual title.

Today is a big day. Right now three SEC teams are through to the quarters with three more SEC teams having a chance. In team golf, 10 strokes is not insurmountable, so everyone has a chance to advance.

Here's the details on the six SEC teams.

Arkansas had a great third round at -8 after shooting +11 the first two days.
Texas has been fairly consistent with rounds of +5, E and +5.
South Carolina bounced back from a +9 first round to shoot -1 over the second and third round.
Tennessee was +12 in the first two rounds and E in the third round
LSU has been over par all three rounds, but not too bad so they are in contention.
State was 16 strokes worse on Day 3 than they were on Day 2, when they shot the fifth best round of the tournament at -2. State is the only team outside the top 8 to have shot a round under par, but they also are the only team in the top 15 to have a round double digits over par, and it was +14.

My guess is the top 8 cutline today is going to be +11 or +12.

I missed the cutline by 3!!! I thought +12 would be it. It was +15.

Good luck to Arkansas and Texas. They would have to play each other in the semifinal, but one of them needs to knock Stanford off!

I don't like the new scoring site since they just went away from Golfstat.

They have finally updated the info and here are the individual tee times:
