Must reluctantly admit that Brooks Austin is the best beat reporter we've ever had

Brooks is gradually embracing his inner white cornball and not dropping as many verbs on purpose and trying to be a trendy "urban" teenager these days.
Once he masters this, the takeover will be complete. Brooks is in the press pool now and hangs out with the other beat reporters around Butts-Mehre when football is happening. Combine the connections he has now within the program with his knowledge of the game, and there's no longer any need to skim through the AJC and other beat writer dweeb daily reports and instead just catch up with Brooks' Youbutube page about once a week. Solid stuff!

I've been following him for a few years now. Even Chuck and Chernoff have moved to him for their weekly UGA beat reporter guest during the season. Instead of Towers, Emerson, et al, the usual suspects.

So much better than many we had from the 90s forward

He may be our first beat writer ever who actually played college football. If you ever see our beat writers herded together, it looks like a Revenge of the Nerds reunion. Pretty pitiful.

Brooks hs just perfected his niche of football guy who actually wants to talk to and teach your everyday fan (as opposed to fan boys and “journalists” who lord their access over their readers). I’ve always liked Seth Emerson (and David Hale before him) because they attempted to speak to the fans as equals but Brooks has actual practical knowledge to do what he wants to do and has developed his personality to make it enjoyable.

He's also a film rat. Love that.

Seeing Austin and Top Billin’ for a decade now. Both are great and blew up.

The monopoly of the outdated model of a handful of reporters being the gatekeepers of most of the info being disseminated has been broken. Now, one does not have to be a journalist who went to J school to have access and an audience. A positive is fans have the ability to learn more about the game than with the old method. I told Brooks he needed to tone down the schtick and just do what he was doing. Glad he listened as at least for me, it is much more palatable and informative.

Top Billin’, definitely had some good film breakdown on Georgia. He seemed to get away from college and focuses more on NFL.

Yes I do and one of the guys specifically that writes for rivals looks like he's never crawled out of the basement and still has wallpaper put up as his background when he goes on video. I have a hard time taking some of the nerds that come out of Grady very seriously in general but this cat takes the cake because you know he never played one down of competitive sports

that guy is really good. The guys like Chuck Oliver and Chip Towers just seem to try to stir the pot and try to bait Kirby with questions that relate to off the field issues. A lot of us just want to watch breakdowns and the sport itself. I rarely turn on these ESPN shows they are talking about off field issues like what a player said or sone contract issue,.

When was the last time Chuck was in the press pool? 13 years ago?

I listened to some other youtubers this afternoon for their G-Day takes and there really is a stark difference between Brooks and others like, say, Dean Legge.
20% of Brooks Austin's sentences have information.
3% of Dean's have information.

Something else I noticed- Brooks said he was asked not to publish video and photos taken, and said he won't, and so far hasn't. The other beat reporters don't GAF and are putting some stuff out there. I'm sure Brooks will eventually, once all the others do, and there's not a cat in the bag anymore, but he has enough respect to not be the first, second, third, or fourth person to do, even though it would certainly make him many click dollars to do so.
