All this talk about how the SEC is historically good this year in both basketball and baseball makes me wonder how true that is. The league is certainly deep. And SEC teams may very well win national championships in both. But no era will ever match 2006-2012. The SEC was at the peak of power. Over that seven year period four different SEC teams won the championship in football every season.

LSU - 2007
Auburn - 2010
Florida - 2006, 2008
Alabama - 2009, 2011, 2012

In basketball, two SEC teams won three men’s basketball titles.

Kentucky - 2012
Florida -2006, 2007

And in baseball the SEC won three national championships.

LSU - 2009
South Carolina - 2010, 2011

During that 7 year span the NCAA handed over 21 national championship trophies in the big three sports; football, mens bball, and baseball. An SEC lifted the trophy 13 times.

Going forward I can’t see the SEC, or any conference, having a 5+ year span where they win 60% of national championships.

As good as the SEC is today, it isn’t as good as it was then. And never will be again.

Ole Miss certainly didn’t contribute to the SEC’s dominance during those years so it makes sense you wouldn’t contribute anything to a discussion about it.

Does baseball break even?

Just asking.
