First off I am a die hard LSU fan, but I live in Arkansas. I work with several LSU fans, a Florida fan and a bunch of Hog fans and as luck would have it I am married to a Hog fan. There is always plenty of friendly trash talk going on at work and home. I was wondering how others felt about the Razorback football program.

Bobby Petrino has yet to win consistently against top 30 type programs. Ever. Some say he should be able to recruit better athletes than he did at Louisville, but how much better? and how much better will those recruits need to be to win in the SEC?
Ryan Mallett is going to be good though, but I just don't see the nepotism working out for Bobby on defense. He will have good offense but a god awful defense and won't be able to win consistently enough to warrant his paycheck and will cause fans to question if he's really worth it starting at the end of next year.

Arkansas should be content with competing for a bowl game each year. That's where they are. They are sitting back there with Moo State and watching LSU,BAMA,AU & now Ole miss compete for a trip to ATL. The bigger question is.. what is Patrino's future if they continue to just be mediocre.

Back there with Moo State? Youve got to be kidding.
I can see Bama and LSU, but AU under Chizik I'm not sold on and with recruiting classes like Ole Miss is currently bringing in they won't be getting those big wins for long.

Well last year was BP's first year and had to play with most of HDN players, so he didn't have that much to go with, but still beat Auburn and LSU. We went 5-7 last year. We have an untried qb in the SEC, 1 qb that has very little experience.
With all that I would we'll probably be the most improved team in the SEC West. This team you better not overlook or call mediocre. That was when we were coached by HDN.

The Hogs, despite how dismal the rest of their season has been, seem to have the uncanny ability to get upset and mess everything up.
Definitely a team that cant be overlooked

LSU might just have over looked us the past two seasons.

Back there with Moo State? Didn't they beat you this year? Sounds like you guys are well on your away to becoming a power! This doesn't sound right coming from a Rebel talking about power and I am in no way implying the Ole Miss has become a power. I just think they have a better shot than Arky

Arkansas is now has the # 2 Defensive Backfield class in the nation and the # 1 in the SEC!!

it's hard for me to take anyone else's db class over ours. 5 stars janzen jackson and craig loston and 4 star ath drayton calhoun are good enough for me.

I can understand that, but this is going to be a good recruiting class for Arkansas, and for a long time we didn't really have alot to cheer for, but now we do.

Hogs are my 2nd favorite team. Of course, I did grow up in Arkansas. I much prefer Hog fans to other fan bases and I like Little Rock and Fayetteville.

I think the Pigs are passionate about their football team and that's great and all but I think the old SWC fans have fed a lot of delusions into the younger generation about how they were elite back then playing against pretty weak competition overall and think they should be competing for SEC championships and BCS bowls...possibly even a national championship in the SEC. I've made my case before so I won't go into much detail.
Arkansas faces a huge fundamental issue they will likely never overcome and that's the overall talent in the SEC is higher than what players Arkansas can bring to their school. Arkansas fans are jumping up and down about their recruiting class this year but it's merely 7th in the SEC and if LSU, UGA, UF etc... were having that type of recruiting class it would be nothing more than disappointing. This is the difference in talent I'm talking about. Arkansas is not a talent rich state so they must go out of state and take quality players and they simply aren't taking them away from LSU in Louisiana, aren't taking them away from Oklahoma, Texas or LSU in Texas etc...They have to keep settling for 3-stars OOS for the most part unless they go to the JUCO or Prep school ranks. Evenn one out of state 4-star they got from Texas (Austin Moss) the big programs didn't want (LSU/TX/OU). It's a fundamental problem I don't think Arkansas will lever be able to overcome. Constant bottom half recruiting classes will continue to produce bottom half results with the occasional good year.
Now I'm not saying Arkansas never beats or will never beat good teams, they will. They may, one day, might even sneak in an SEC championship in a down year for the SEC. But I believe to think they will ever become a serious threat in the SEC like they were in the SWC is reaching at best and it all comes down to the talent level.

Ole Miss beat LSU 31-13 with recruiting classes no better than Arkansas' this year.
