I didn’t have a problem with it then, nor do I now.
frick Pedo U under Rick Engle then and frick'em now Tony Franklin.
Who was the QB of that 1962 Gator team?
Ray Graves was HC.
Pepper Rogers was OC.
The SEC consisted of 12 teams in '62, including Tulane and GaTech.
10 years later the SEC dropped to 10 teams.
30 years later, in 1992, the SEC would once again have 12 teams with the addition of Arkansas and SC.
50 years later the SEC went to 14 teams with the addition of Mizzou and Texas A&M.
62 years later the SEC would finish their expansion at 16 and become the first Super Conference with the addition of Texas and Oklahoma in 2024
SEC Order of Finish in 1962:
#3 Ole Miss (Johnny Vaught)
#5 Bama (Bear Bryant)
#7 LSU (Paul Dietzel)
Ga Tech
Florida
Auburn
Georgia
Kentucky
Mississippi State
Tennessee
Vandy
Tulane
A: Tom Shannon
Spurrier would be a freshman playing JV ball in '63 and would go on to win the school's first Heisman in '66. He would, 30 yrs later, bring the Gators to prominence with the '96 MNC.

Gator Bowl: The Gators upset ninth-ranked Penn State, 17-7, on December 29, 1962, at Gator Bowl Stadium in Jacksonville, Florida. To inspire the underdog team against a favored northern foe, the Confederate Battle Flag was worn on their helmets.

I'm kind of surprised southern teams don't do that today.

Yeah I’m sure many current players would love to rep the confederate battle flag

Joe Paterno was just an assistant then, but he never lost that arrogance.

Honestly 10 years ago, hell no...but black players would probably think it was edgy and just roll with it now.
