Venables just isn't going to cut it as their HC and has a hefty buyout after being extended through 2029.
Plus they just don't have the structural recruiting advantages that most of the SEC does. DFW is getting picked over more than ever by national brands with NIL and the rise of SMU.

I’m going to stick up a bit for our former Big 8 rival and disagree with you.
Even though I understand your reasoning, OU access to TX recruiting (though without a doubt more competitive) will not dry up by any means. Plus OU now has additional access to talent throughout the Southeastern states to an extent it will not have had.
So long as OU doesn’t go through a string of batshite AD’s who each bring along their own coaches (some of who have no understanding or appreciation of OUs traditions or history), they’ll get back on track.
Finally, so long as OU doesn’t go apeshite and fire coaches who win 9 games/have winning seasons (like we did twice within a 10 year period), they’ll manage to find their footing.
Tough year/welcome to their new home conference but I think we revisit this topic in a few short years and OU will have adapted and be doing fine.

It’s been 26 years, I think you mean full-Tenner

It may have happened already….we are not getting the quality in the portal like the other SEC teams are…if we lay another egg next season then I will say we have officially slid to Nebraska’s level
