Not sure of the reason other than it may be a two-one deal. It is a shame that it is at UMASS.
When State played up there it was in Gillette Stadium in Foxboro. My wife and I made the trip. What a great venue it is. All chair-back seats, aisles wide enough between rows to walk past someone without them having to move, a great plaza area outside the N end zone with a 4-5 story building that overlooks it and the stadium with several bars / restaurants.
A first class facility and the Patriots did it right. Easily the best stadium I have ever been in for a football game.

And we probably had about 6K fans there as quite a few folks made the trip a vacation.
Plus a lot of State alumni in upper Atlantic seaboard area were there as well as obviously hard for them to get back to campus for a game.

UMASS only played in Gillette while they were updating their stadium to meet minimum D1 standards when they made the jump. Foxboro is far as shite from Amherst. I’d rather be near the school so it feels like an away game, not a neutral site game against a shite opponent.

Hey, don't cuck shame Mizzery. I mean not everyone can get a juggernaut like UMass to travel halfway across the country.

Asking for a friend but how old might you be? How about me driving to Jonesboro to a true high school stadium to watch Eli Manning and Ole Miss play Arkansas State? Parking lot was a damned farm field.

All it takes is one jackass in an Athletic Department. Read some history.

Price to pay for getting 2 home games against the worst FBS team.

They still played several games on campus that year (2016) and played State, BC and La. Tech at Foxboro. I tend to agree that campus games are better but in this case, we were on vacation in Maine for a week and then came to BOS for the end of the trip and ballgame. I would not have driven all the way to Amherst. It was a great experience for the players to play in a NFL stadium as well.
