What are you smoking? It's a season long award just to get into the tournament.

Let me try to figure out how surviving 11 other of the best college football teams will feel watered down compared to current and previous systems ...

Nope.

Getting into the tournament with a 9-3 or 10-2 record is hardly deserved IMHO.

Also...with AQs now part of the system, it's possible that a team that went 8-4 in the regular season scores an upset in the conference championship game and earns a slot/bye in the CFP.

Was it deserved when you didn't even play in a conference championship game and got in?

Let me translate the OP for y'all.

Bama had a nice run under Saban, but now he is gone.
Bama isn't going to win another title for a long time.

Therefore Bama fan is pushing the narrative that the titles that Bama has been winning in recent history are legit, but titles going forward are not.

The truth is that going forward a National Championship will be much more impressive.
There were probably some years where the 3rd ranked team in final poll was probably the best team in the country, and would have beaten the teams that played in the title game, but they blew a game in the regular season that kept them out.

Yes.

Because I don't subscribe to the idea that you have to win your conference to be considered one of the best teams in college football. I'm sorry but I don't believe an undefeated Sun Belt champion should get slotted in over a 10-2 P4 team that failed to win its conference or make the conference championship game.

Well, you wouldn't have played for it years before. Things change. They won't get in over the B1G or SEC with those records. Debatable about whether the Big 12 or ACC team would deserve it with two losses.

Some of the stuff being brought up here is like asking what we'll do tomorrow if the sun doesn't come up.

20 weeks 3 days - between Aug 31 2024 & Jan 20 2025 - seasons can now stretch to 17 total games -

39% of a calendar year -

you won't see players sitting out the CFP - but I suspect they'll be some who will no longer value playing in a conference CG - and instead hold out for the CFP -

This is certainly true for 2017 and 2023 and I'm perfectly okay and content with that.

Indeed they do. However, change is not always for the best.

Soon you won't see players sitting out period once they're officially deemed school employees (which is only a matter of time). Contracts will then be negotiated for salaries and one of the stipulations in that contract will undoubtedly make it so they can't voluntarily opt out or sit out on games if they want their money.

Josh Pate talked me off the ledge. Sooner or later these players will lose the power they presently have and see it revert back to the schools. It's only a question of time now.

it can't happen soon enough at this point -

18 year old kids wanna get adult $$$ - then comply with adult contracts - including penalties and fines - and lawsuits -

You do know that a #23 ranked Liberty would have made it over a 10-2 Oklahoma last year, right?

In 2022 a 10-2 Tulane would have gone over a10-2 Washington.

In 2021 an 11-2 Houston would have made it in over a10-2 Michigan State.

In 2019 a 12-1 Memphis would have gone over a 9-3 Auburn.

Well....you'll see more mysterious injuries, then. It'll happen. You can count on that.
