Did this get discussed here? More professionalization of the sport in my opinion, but I guess the benefit should be better play right away. Texas has had various people like Gary Patterson and Paul Chryst around the program for a year or two. Now they can take the field and help out during a game.

"better play"

The myth of all myths.

Well smarter play. Some people here undoubtedly remember the game Texas lost against NC State, primarily on 3 blocked punts. Texas did not have a dedicated special teams coach that season - I am sure Mack Brown would have loved having a few extra hands to redirect the players and tell them to how to shore up their protection.

graduate assistants have been able to openly coach players on the field, game day, for more than half a century

GAs, yes. But not “analysts.”

But we're not talking about graduate assistants. We're talking potentially coaches the caliber of a Gary Patterson who could very well change the flow of a game by diagnosing and then adjusting for a needed solution.

Imagine coaches who might not enjoy recruiting, but do enjoy teaching players and on Game Day managing their units of players.

Sorry, there are lots of Longhorns here now. I am sure some of them remember the game.

Or you know, college football fans in general.

I was.

Because the writer printed something that was demonstrably false.

Right, but all these coaches given analysts roles can now just be another on the field coaches. There have been a lot of reputable coaches that take an analyst role so they can be a part of the staff.

I think Gary Patterson is the real reason Sark is still in Austin. Sark was really struggling as a HC until Patterson was brought on.

Can’t wait for schools to have one coach per player! Gotta be thorough!

He's at Baylor now unfortunately. I think he'll have a good impact there.

If we ignore the fact Patterson was fired by TCU shortly after losing to Sark, and they did it in the middle of the season.

Your AD (also former AD to Patterson) must have seen that Stark was struggling (like what everyone else saw) and brought Patterson on to help right the ship. You should be thankful to Gary.

What does this have to do with him joining Sarks staff and helping him become a better head coach?
