I used to agree with that sentiment, but prison isn't working because there isn't much fear involved in going there....they get ipads for goodness sakes...fear has to be brought back into the equation...maybe those Asian countries that cane people within an inch of their life know what's up?

Another reason that prison isn’t a deterrent is cultural. Some people not only expect to go to prison, it is actually celebrated. It is just part of life. They grow up in fatherless homes, many times because dad is in prison himself. And the males that do serve as role models for them are cut from the same cloth. I don’t think it would matter how horrible they make prison, until there are cultural changes it will not change. And sadly, local leadership in many areas of the south has zero desire to change it. Just look at Jackson, B’ham, Baton Rouge, New Orleans, Memphis and a whole long list of other cities.

Maybe in some places. however, there is all kind of fear that goes into being at Alabama DOC. One of the worst systems in the country. Try being a young white gut with a short stint at ADOC.
Florida and Texas also notorious for other reasons. Just go to Al.com and type ADOC and see some of the insanity going on there. Smh.
