I’m not a huge fan of the 10+ win stat because it doesn’t factor SOS.

Boise State has 18 seasons of 10+ wins since 1996, yet you’d be hard-pressed to find 10 wins against ranked opponents during those 18 seasons.

I know I can remember a lot of 9 win seasons in Auburn history that included a schedule of 4-5 highly ranked opponents while there were some 10-win teams those same seasons who played just one or two such opponents.

Number of Final AP Top 10 opponents faced since 2010:

46- Auburn

39- Tennessee

37- Alabama, Florida, LSU

35- Georgia
34- Arkansas
33- Miss St

29- Ole Miss
28- S Carolina, Vanderbilt
27- Texas, Texas A&M

25- Missouri
24- Kentucky
23- Oklahoma

Again. The variance is SOS that exists in this sport is too severe to put much stock in # of 10-win seasons. When the Sooners start playing a schedule with a pulse, there’s no way those 10+ seasons will keep piling up.

If you have a bunch of 10+ win seasons in a P5 conference it's a good bet that your SOS was fairly solid.

And no one has them anywhere close to Auburn's level for that very reason.

I think the 10 win season has been diluted; as recently as the late 90's you only had 11 games. And going back just a few years earlier, there was no conference title game.

If you're 10-1, that's a special season, and you may be playing for a title in the poll era (meaning there's a good chance the national consensus is you're the best team).
Now if you're 10-2, that's a good solid season, but nothing historical.

I think the loss total (1 loss seasons) would be a far better indicator. Those are elite years. If you want to have "very good", go to 2 losses.

Or the fact that seasons were once 11 and 10 games long. Newer 10+ win seasons are mathematically easier than those prior to 2001 and especially 1970.
