No, have you seen him play? Or watch actual basketball? He’s great at defense, I agree, that work for any team. But he is not run and gun type of player and his offense is very limited that your coach needs. Again, just because he’s a good portal player doesn’t mean he fits. Successful college teams are more about fit than talent. It’s why there so many upsets over the more talented teams. I can get the top 5 players in the portal, but if they don’t fit my system, it’s not going to work. Also, how is your coach going to split all of these minutes? You are naive if you think there won’t be resentment when many of these guys are only getting 5 minutes a game. Again, your coach only plays at most 7 players a game.

Oh good, the rebuttal is questioning whether we watch basketball.

Yea, watched him play. Watched his highlights. Read what people say about him. I've never seen anyone think he doesn't fit like a glove with our program and style of play.

He's gonna set high ball screens and roll to the rim. He's gonna play 20-25 minutes a night, more when we play a team with an elite big, and Sherrell is going to play the other 15. And he's going to absolutely shut down anything at the rim, which is what our elite defensive teams under Oats have all had.

The idea that Nate Oats of all people is signing transfers based on 247 rankings or something is hysterical. All of our premium big targets for 5 years have fit the exact same mold - long, athletic, defend the rim without fouling. Our backup option was a more raw version of Cliff, Onyenso from Kentucky, whose advanced metrics are almost identical. Our incoming freshman center, Sherrell, is of almost identical build and athleticism as Chuck, Cliff and Onyenso. This is the type of player we want at center every season.

Tipton also made it clear we got him even though we were outbid in NIL pretty significantly (likely by North Carolina).

So no, I pretty vehemently disagree with the idea that we snagged him because he's "ranked high" and we "threw NIL" around. He was the best and most veteran version of our ideal center available, and we get to pair him with a 18 year old who is similar in body type but young.

I guarantee you I know way more basketball than you do. I’m not arguing he’s not a great defensive guy. His skill set doesn’t match with the style of play when it comes to offense.
