Ahem, wait just a minute here!!....let's tell the whole story here!

#1 Texas A&M did NOT go to the Sugar Bowl and play #5 Tulane in order to avoid playing #2 Tennessee.

Texas A&M was also undefeated and untied and had shut out 6 of 11 opponents in 1939.

#2 Tennessee was invited to the ROSE BOWL game to play the #3 USC Trojans, which is why Texas A&M didn't play the Vols.

Undefeated, untied and unscored upon Tennessee Volunteers were WHIPPED, 14-0, by the unbeaten, untied Trojans.

Texas A&M defeated Tulane, 14-13. The Aggies finished #1, USC #2.
