this should never be an option.. the 12 teams should be the 12 teams.. the top 4 should be set most of the time. only have to figure out fhe seeding..
so that leaves 8 teams.. try to get the matchups as fair as possible and try to avoid rematches..
It could be simple. but of course it won’t be.

Just like the old way: 4 slots for 5 conferences WITH the allowance of multiple slots for any conference.
