Other than Pearl's 1 magical run to the Final 4 in 2019 and his 2 SEC regular season titles compared to Wimp's 1, Wimp has the better resume.

The SEC only had 10 teams for almost 100% of Wimp’s tenure. The fact Wimp only won one regular season title in an SEC that featured no Arkansas, no South Carolina, no Missouri, no Texas A&M… and was before the rise of Florida athletic dominance that started in the early ‘90s is a major red flag on his resume.

He also inherited a program that was doing quite well at the time compared to Bruce who had to dig Auburn out of a grave for the first 4-5 seasons.

Looking at Bruce’s overall win%, SEC record, etc. isn’t really a fair judgement of his coaching talent. Name one other coach who’s achieved his level of success that took over such a rebuilding job.

Since 2017-2018, Bruce’s winning % is 72.4%. In the last seven seasons, he’s just 3 games back from having the best record in SEC play during that time.

Bruce after building a foundation is way more impressive than Wimp on his foundation. Not even close really.

I will add this as well as it pertains to comparing their current and Bruce. UAT has had the better overall talent, especially in the past 5 years, yet Bruce and their coach have the same accolades. If you want to look at facts, Bruce has done more with a much less talented roster and has overachieved in most years, whereas their coach is doing things that are expected of with rosters as talented as he has had since he’s been there.

Let’s put it another way. Do you think UAT’s coach would have been able to do what Pearl did and takeover a dead program and make it what it is now? And what would UAT look like if Pearl took over after they fired Johnson? I can tell you that UAT’s coach would not have near the impact as Pearl has had with Auburn. Their coach didn’t really build anything, he just installed a system that is NBA friendly. He’s not recruiting at some astronomical level. They had great talent before he got there. So yea, he’s doing a serviceable job given the amount of talent they have had, but I can tell you that he wouldn’t have those results if he had the roster Auburn has. To give you some perspective: last year, Auburn only had 1 4 star player out of high school and 1 coveted portal player (Broome) on the roster. UAT had multiple 4-5 star players on their team and Auburn still had a better regular season. Just a thought about what kind of coach Pearl is compared to their coach.
