1959 #1 LSU vs Tennessee. (week after the Halloween run.) Refs called Billy Cannon short of goal line, but photos show the ball clearly over. Tigers lost 14-13, and finished 10-2 after Sugar Bowl rematch loss to Rebs.

1969 #5 LSU at Ole Miss. Tigers led 23-12 in the 4th. Archie led Rebs to two TDs and a 26-23 lead. Cholly Mac disdained a tying FG near the OM goal line and barely missed on a winning 4th down throw in the EZ.
Tigers finished 9-1, and accepted a bid to play #1 Texas in the Cotton Bowl.
The Cotton Bowl committee then reneged on their invitation, taking 7-3 and lower-ranked Notre Dame over 9-1 higher-ranked LSU. LSU players then turned down Astro-Bluebonnet Bowl invite.

1970 Top 5 LSU at #1 Notre Dame. Game was tied 0-0 with ND near the LSU goal line and time running out.
Joe Theismann threw a pass into the LSU end zone that LSU's Tommy Casanova dropped in his stomach that could have been a winning pick-6. Instead ND kicked the winning FG and won 3-0.
The AP headlines next morning: "If ND Is #1, LSU Is #1-A."
