The other thing nobody has mentioned is how pitchers typically throw harder as relievers than starters and vice versa.
He’s touched 96 on occasion this season, makes sense he would try to max out when he’s only got 2 innings and he’s had a full week of rest.

I did mention the increased Velo because of a relief appearance but my post was a damn essay so I understand no one reading it all.
