I’m old enough to have been around when the old SWC was around. Yes Texas ran folks off and ultimately destroyed the conference.

I see these kind of allegations on here all the time, but no one ever explains HOW they ran people off and destroyed conferences. The most you might get is "just wait you'll see". So how about explaining to the rest of us how they managed to single handedly destroy not one but two conferences.

Big 12. They created a network just for them. Not sharing the revenue with conference. Unequal funding. They received a bigger portion of the revenue money from the conference than the other schools.

Turned in SMU for cheating after SMU beat Texas. That was the beginning of the end.

I’m not going to do the research for you when the internet is available for everyone. The gist of it was that Texas was tired of sharing revenue with the rest of the conference. They like what they saw from the money the independent schools at the time were making (Penn State and Notre Dame). They didn’t feel they should have to share revenue with the other schools in the conference. So they did what they’re doing now and bolted the conference to join the Big 12 which was the Big 8 at the time. Which ultimately brought the SWC to an end. Of course A&M, Baylor, and Texas Tech followed them. Long story short it was all about the money and Texas’s arrogance. They’re actually doing the same thing now. It’s all about the money. A lot more to it but I’m not gonna take the time to type it all out.
