I can give you my view as an Alabama alum with a wife is is an Auburn alum. I have 3 daughters. Both of the older girls had over 4.2 GPA's. Auburn recruited them much harder and more effectively than did Alabama. Auburn offered a far better scholarship package to both of them. They both went to Auburn. They were both in a sorority and both had a fantastic experience at Auburn. Both had grown up as Alabama fans and gone to games in Tuscaloosa often.

I have 4 nephews. 3 of them had above 4.2 GPA's.All 4 grew up as Auburn fans but were out of state students. The oldest went to Vandy (full ride) and never considered Alabama. The second, same age as my oldest daughter, had the same level of grades and same level of ACT/SAT scores. Alabama rolled out the red carpet for him. He went to Alabama on a fullride scholarship in the School of Engineering.

Nephew #3 was an Alabama resident by heis Soph year in High school.Same level of grades and test scores. Alabama did not put on the hard press they had for #2. He took a full ride at Covenant College near Chattanooga.

Nephew #4 had pretty bad dislexia but fought his was to pretty good grades and test scores. Just not National Merrit Finalist level. He went to Alabama solely because of the field of study he wanted.

Alabama prioritized out of state over in state ina major way. One out of state boy got the carpet rolled out and two in state girls got largely ignored.

My 3rd daughter is a Jr. in High School. He grades and scores are fantastic (4.2+ GPA) but not quite as high as that of her cousin and two older sisters. She is an out of state student. Alabama is pursuing her like they did her cousin. But for her, Alabama is just a "back-up plan" school. She is Auburn first, Vandy second, Florida State 3rd, and Texas 4th. Alabama's treatment of her sisters ruined their chances of landing her.

I don’t even know how to respond to your post it’s so infuriating. UA has got to do better. Did you talk to a local recruiter and share that information to him/her?

Well, I guess I shoud post an update. U of A has continued to push for my youngest to come to Tuscaloosa for a full tour. After spending several days in Gulf Shores, we made the trip north to Tuscaloosa for the visit she had told them she would take. They rolled out the red carpet. This tour was for only 5 out of state HS student candidates that are entering their senior year this fall. The tour was focused on the Honors College Program in addition to the standard full campus tour. When we arrived, my daughter did not want to like the time on campus. They did a fantastic job with her.

While Auburn is still her 1st choice, Alabama is now a "VERY close 2nd" and she said her choice will likely come down to which university offers her the best overall package.

It is a true shame the U of A did not make this same effort with my older two when they were in-state students. Otherwise, today would have locked her choice down as an out of state student.
